I have been reading memoirs a lot recently and all three have been great books. Each a bit different than the other, but all riveting nonetheless.

Inside Out by Demi Moore: I listened to the Demi Moore memoir on Audible and loved hearing her as the narrator. Let’s just say I had no idea her life thus far was so crazy! “As much as her story is about adversity, it is also about tremendous resilience. In this deeply candid and reflective memoir, Demi pulls back the curtain and opens up about her career and personal life—laying bare her tumultuous relationship with her mother, her marriages, her struggles balancing stardom with raising a family, and her journey toward open-heartedness.” A fun, wild ride.

Wild Game by Adrienne Brodeur: This book was definitely wild. Adrienne recounts how as a teen, she was a co-conspirator in her mother’s extramarital affair. When Adrienne was fourteen years old, her mother entered her room to tell her “Ben Souther just kissed me.” This event begins Brodeur’s memoir exploring the odd triangle that she, her mother, and Ben eventually created. “The result is an engaging, at times breathless, read that builds in anticipation, even after that bang of a beginning.” Her family dynamic is dysfunctional, to say the least. Her strained relationship with her mother follows her into adulthood and ultimately shapes the way she approaches future relationships.

Tell Me More by Kelly Corrigan: I attended a fundraising lunch for a local non-profit Person-to-Person in October and Kelly Corrigan was the guest speaker. She was amazing to hear. Her latest memoir Tell Me More is subtitled “Stories About the 12 Hardest Things I’m Learning To Say” is just as good as her past titles, The Middle Place and Glitter & Glue. Here, Corrigan is back with a “deeply personal, unfailingly honest, and often hilarious examination of the essential phrases that turn the wheel of life.” It’s a quick, uplifting, happy read.

I really got into these memoirs, so much that I think I may write a future Book Blast featuring only the memoir genre. All of these books are available locally in Darien, CT at Barrett Bookstore, or online at Amazon.

How do I find these titles to recommend to you? I read a lot, but I also refer to trusted book reviews— on Goodreads, NY Times, and Kirkus. I belong to a book club with opinionated readers and I live next door to a local bookstore insider who lends me advance copies! Basically, I do the legwork so you don’t have to. For more titles browse previous Book Blast posts or visit my Amazon store. Keep reading!
