Winter Woes

I have my father to thank for my thin lips, acute punctuality, and my annoyingly dry skin. Each winter I search for that magical cream that will keep my legs from peeling, my hands from cracking and my face from flaking. Over the years I have curated quite a collection, and it’s always growing. This year I added the Egyptian balm, a moisturizer based on the ancient Egyptian formula for a youthful appearance. My favorite is from Taui which is handmade in the USA from 4 simple ingredients: olive oil, beeswax, honey, and propolis. This all-natural cream has healed one son’s eczema, one son’s chapped lips and face, and has cured my itchy rash that forms under my wedding rings in the cold weather. Thankfully it is made without any artificial ingredients, fillers, alcohol, animal ingredients, fragrances, sulfates, artificial colors, or unnatural preservatives. That’s a lot of goodness for one product. I also included some targeted faves for hands and body. The Weleda Skin Food is thick and creamy but easily absorbed on your hands. The Huxley Secret of Sahara cream literally saves my face. Its thick paste-like lotion is soothing and hydrating, with a fresh scent. For the body, I like the REN Body Oil and the Kiehl’s Creme de Corps, a classic fave. While browsing Beauty Tap, a Korean beauty site, I came across Swanicoco’s Green Tea Body Lotion. I am interested to try this one (in my shopping cart) since it is made with 20 fermented ingredients. The rave reviews say it is gel-like and super hydrating so I can’t wait to try for myself. Another two standouts: the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume (super rich, with a little zinc oxide) and the new e.l.f. cosmetics Hello Hydration which is a great price point at $12!
