Lately, I have been switching over to an all mineral sunscreen routine. The more I read, the more I feel that chemical sunblocks are not as safe as their mineral counterparts. Since chemicals in sunblocks are under new scrutinies, (avobenzone, oxybenzone, and octocrylene) I am sticking with what works for me: zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, two ingredients in most mineral sunscreens. These heavy hitters block both UVA and UVB rays and provide a shield on the skin instead of chemical screens that absorb the damaging rays. Of course, every choice is personal, so I encourage you to check your sunscreen brand on the EWG website (Environmental Working Group), which rates most brands out there. They list a full ingredient breakdown and will rank each one based on safety factors. Take a look and decide for yourself. Here’s to sunny days ahead!
