Bonus Post: Wine Sale!!
As we enter into these last weeks of summer, it occurs to me that soon my favorite rosé wines will be gone from the shelves of my local wine store. What does this mean? Get drinking! Until the weather starts to get crisp, I will be loving my cherished rosés. Our town’s wine shop, Sipstirs, in Darien, CT, rounded up a few great bottles that proved to be the most popular and have the best value. Also included are both my personal favorite and the owner’s as well. And the best news is that there is a 10% discount on any case purchased. See above and stock up either before they disappear, or before I get there! From left to right:
Most Popular:
Inspiration Rosé 2018- $24 (Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah)
A bold, intense pink color that falls in the deeper pink spectrum. Floral, clean, fresh berries first then followed by fresh herbs and flowers like walking through a Provence lavender field on an early summer morning. The harmony of bright acidity, rich texture, and dry finish show the completeness of this wine. Creamy strawberry notes upfront and lingering flavors of fresh basil, thyme, lavender.
David’s Favorite Bottle (store owner):
La Croix du Prieur Rosé 2018- $20 (Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah)
Pale pink with a marble and violet highlight. An elegant and complex nose of yellow peach, lychee, and persimmon with smooth minerality. Refreshing with notes of orange peel on the finish creating a smooth, nice balanced roundness.
Darian’s Favorite Bottle (associate):
Ion Rosé 2018- $24 (Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Cinsault, Grenache)
On the nose, it is tropical, floral and inviting. But, notes of guava, lemon zest, and lychee on the mid-palate steal the show. It’s dry, muscular and the rich mineral-driven acidity lends a crispness to the finish.
Liz’s favorite and Best Value:
Terres de Saint Louis Rosé- $15 (Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah)
From the small Coteaux Varois, a hilly region in central Provence, this is a crisp mineral-textured wine with a pale salmon pink color. It has lively acidity, delicate strawberry, citrus zest and a touch of red currants. Dry and fruity with hints of cherry for a dry finish. It’s a real food rosé. Plus, this is the preferred label for our beach club as well!
