Tis the season to wrap gifts, so I like to listen to podcasts as I go. In addition to enjoying my weekly Crime Junkies episodes, I have increased my library to include some new favorites. Some are short and sweet and can be listened to while running errands in the car or going on a walk, and others are episodic, which take a few days to finish.
Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen– “For the past 6 years, someone, or some group, has been terrorizing a certain class of Hollywood workers. The mark receives a phone call or email offering the job of a lifetime- a key role on a major film or tv show. This offer comes from a powerful woman, usually one of the biggest producers or studio execs in the industry. All they need to do is jump on a plane for Jakarta. But when they land, there is no producer, no movie, it’s all a fraud. Two journalists untangle the incredible true story of one of the longest and strangest cons in history.” Thank goodness I had so many gifts to wrap- I listened to this one non-stop. So good.
Anatomy of Murder– “A murder has many layers: the victim, the crime, and the investigations. To truly understand it, you need to dissect each piece of the tragic puzzle.” This hour-long episodic podcast is a lot like my fave Crime Junkies but wraps up with conclusions and verdicts. I also enjoy the viewpoints of the two hosts, Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi (a former NYC homicide prosecutor) and Scott Weinberger (an investigative journalist and former deputy sheriff).
My Life of Crime– Hosted by “48 Hours” correspondent Erin Moriarty, this podcast focuses on her true-crime investigations. “In each 30 min episode Moriarty brings listeners along on her journey, going to the scene of the crime, behind prison walls, and as far as South America. Serial killers, stalkers, spouses, it’s all on this season of My Life of Crime.” These are great episodes for car rides. Short and sweet!
CounterClock– This 10-episode podcast is brought to you by Ashley Flowers, the host of Crime Junkies. There are two seasons of this podcast available and I have listened to both. Each focuses on one unsolved murder case, both taking place on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. I highly recommend this series, hosted by Delia D’Ambra, an investigative journalist. I can’t wait for Season 3!
Red Collar Crime– “When we think of white-collar criminals, we picture a CEO getting caught up in the latest financial scandal. But there is a subgroup within these seemingly nonviolent offenders who are never discussed in mainstream media- the white-collar criminals who kill. Join Catherine Townsend as she dives into the minds of these real-life American Psychos…who are often hiding in plain sight.” I got hooked on this one after listening to The Talented Mr. Rockefeller, a con man pretending to be the heir to the famous dynasty.
