It’s safe to say that I am a true crime junkie. I like every show on IDTV, like Forensic Files, Evil Lives Here and Betrayed. I love Dateline, CSI, 48 Hours- you get the picture. So when I started downloading podcasts, I knew exactly where to start. I spend a lot of time in the car, shuttling kids around our town and sometimes driving long distances for games. As a fan of Audible I am used to listening to books, so podcasts seemed like a great alternative to a long novel. A lot of the downloads I found are short episodes, usually under an hour, and most are about unsolved murders, missing person cases, mysterious investigations, and cautious tales. Below is a list of the podcasts that I have listened to and loved and those that I am still currently subscribed to. Have a listen!

“Serial” Season 1- This was the first multi-episode podcast that I listened to. The plot follows the case of Adnan Syed, a Baltimore teen accused of killing his girlfriend Hae Min Lee in 1999. This case is a highly debated one and is still on-going to this day. This is a rabbit hole kind of case, which is still being debated today. Highly recommend this one!

Crime Junkie- This podcast is composed of hour-long discussions of specific criminal cases: murder, missing persons, mystery! Hosts Ashley and Britt research and report on a variety of subjects, making for a really good listen. I binged on this one and went through over 40 episodes throughout the fall.

Dirty John- You may have heard about this case since it was recently made into a TV show for Bravo. The story follows John Meehan, known as Dirty John to those he has defrauded and manipulated. His romance with Debra Newell is doomed from the start as abuse and deceit dominate the relationship.

Doctor Death- Yikes, this one was creepy. This podcast is hosted by Laura Bell, the reporter who covered the original story. It tells the story of doctor Christopher Duntsch, “a Texas surgeon who was convicted of gross malpractice after thirty-one of his patients were left seriously injured after he operated on them, and two patients died during his operation.” Scary.

22 Hours: An American Nightmare– This is another episodic podcast, with roughly 11 chapters. In 2015 a burning home in an upscale neighborhood of Washington DC, four bodies were found murdered in the ashes. The story follows the investigation that eventually leads to the arrest of Daron Wint (not a spoiler, we learn this in the first 10 minutes). But did he do it? Decide for yourself.

Murder in the Rain– Hosted by two smart savvy women, this podcast resembles “Crime Junkie” in its style and structure. However, Emily and Alisha focus their stories solely on crimes committed in the Pacific Northwest, hence the reference to the rain. The two have a great back and forth banter which gives their grim stories a little levity when needed. This is one of my faves.
