I consulted one of my besties for this post, who I turn to for all things concerning my general well-being. Kristina is my go-to when I have a question about nutrition, a supplement, or a remedy of any sort. Since this summer has been particularly humid we decided that she should share some of her tips to stay hydrated (remembering to drink my water is a challenge I face every day, no matter how hard I try). Take it away, Kristina:
The steamy months of summer are upon us making hydration an important nutritional focus. As someone who sweats like crazy (pool under my Peloton), I have many concoctions that keep me going. Plain water does the trick throughout the day but what to do when getting ready for a long run or tennis match? My favorites are the Nuun tablets. High in electrolytes, no calories, and light tasting, I use them during a workout or afterward for recovery. If you prefer to go strictly natural I am a fan of watered-down coconut water (high in potassium) with a heavy squeeze of lime in my water bottle (love this orange Yeti). For those who don’t like any taste while sweating a pinch of Himalayan sea salt in your water will keep you going and replace the sodium and minerals lost during a serious sweat session. Snacking on grapes (high water content) or orange slices (filled with vitamin C and potassium) is another way to sneak some added H2O into your day. Proper hydration not only keeps you going during a workout but helps you recover for the next day’s activities – even if that includes raising a glass rather than a barbell.
