Forced Family Fun

· board games to beat winter blues ·

January is right around the corner, and with it comes the post-Christmas blues, cold snowy days, and probably more time at home. In anticipation of being stuck in our house, I stocked up on some non-screen games. When it comes to board games our family has a few favorites: Catan (when we have a few hours to kill, Sorry (for the quick break), and my personal choice, Rummikub (dying over this monogrammed leather version in the photo). Since we also love classics like Risk, Clue, and Uno, I decided to search for some clever alternatives. All of these options can be played with the entire family, or a small group of Covid-free teens.

If you like Risk (games of strategic conquest and building): Catan, Ticket to Ride, and Root
If you like Clue (mystery and intrigue): Codenames, 221B Baker Street, Secret Hitler, Spy Alley, and Heimlich & Co.
If you like card games like Uno: Wizard, Exploding Kittens, Pit, and Taco vs. Burrito.
If you like puzzles: Escape Room, Mastermind, and Dimension.

I found so many good options but ultimately purchased Root, 221B Baker Street, Taco vs. Burrito, and Escape Room (the others we either own already or have on a future wish list). See all of these below.
