· TV shows for lazy summer days ·

I know summer is for swimming, sunning and sweating outside, but sometimes I need a quiet hour to lose myself in a good TV show. The non-stop summer activities often leave me exhausted and in need of some mindless relaxation. The other day I was sitting with some friends at the beach discussing tv binging and one of them recommended I tune in to Dead to Me on Netflix. Needless to say, it was over too quickly (binge-watching at its best), so I was in need of yet another diversion. Here is a list I compiled of the shows that are worth a watch while you unwind on the couch this summer:

Younger (TVLand): This show is not new to me. I have loved it since season 1 (now in season 6), enjoying each 30-minute episode. Follow 40-year-old Liza as she navigates the world of as a 26-year-old editorial assistant. This fabulous cast cannot be missed. (view trailer)

Dead to Me (Netflix): This Christina Applegate gem has been getting a lot of buzz lately. Applegate plays Jen who meets Judy in a support group for people who have lost their spouses. These two make an unlikely pair and what unfolds between them is both funny and a little dark. Each episode ends in a cliff hanger which kept me watching late into the night. Can’t wait for season 2! Grand Hotel (ABC, Prime Video): The official tag line: “A look at the professional and personal lives of people working at a family-run hotel in Miami Beach,” doesn’t do this evening soap justice. Multiple storylines intersect in this lavish hotel setting creating a tantalizing experience. In the same vein as Devious Maids and Desperate Housewives. Juicy! (view trailer)

You (Netflix): Based on the book “You” by Caroline Kepnes (click here for my book review), this drama is creeeeepy. It is a little disturbing watching how easily the main character Joe inserts himself into the life of Beck, the object of his obsession. Get ready to watch and wince. (view trailer)

What If (Netflix): Renee Zellweger stars in this thriller by Mike Kelley (remember Revenge) as Anne Montgomery, a wealthy woman who makes young scientist Lisa a steamy proposal. Lisa is on the verge of a scientific breakthrough but needs funding. Enter Anne, who makes her an unexpected offer — one that comes with a twist. In order to give Lisa the money, Anne wants to spend a night alone with Lisa’s husband, Sean. If the couple agrees to the terms, Lisa will get the funding but can never ask her husband what happened during his time with Anne. Yikes! (view trailer)

Jim Gaffigan: Cinco (Netflix stand-up) So. Frickin’. Funny. Just watch, you will have a hard time keeping a straight face. (view trailer)

Wine Country (Netflix original movie): Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph take a girls’ trip to wine country to celebrate a 50th birthday. Need I say more? Cheers! (view trailer here)

Filthy Rich (Fox): This Kim Cattrall series is not released yet so I will have to wait, but it looks fab! She stars in a family drama where wealth, power and religion collide to provide outrageously soapy results. “When the patriarch of a mega-rich Southern family, famed for creating a wildly successful Christian television network, dies in a plane crash, his wife and family are stunned to learn that he fathered three illegitimate children, threatening their family name and fortune. Everyone has an ulterior motive – and no one is going down without a fight.” Yes, please! And I love that Kim Cattrall is back on my tv! (view trailer)

A few more goodies: Big Little Lies, Flea Bag & The Chef Show, The Carbonaro Effect
