I cannot be trusted in a drugstore– CVS is like a playground for me. I am usually running in for batteries or travel shampoo and come out with bags of “needed” inexpensive items. Lately, however, I am finding that the local drugstore has upped their game. Makeup lines are more sophisticated and skincare products rival more expensive luxury brands. I have rounded up a couple of items that give a good bang for the buck. First up, Lash Paradise by L’Oréal. I was perfectly happy with my Milk Makeup Kush mascara, so I hesitated to try this cult favorite. After a few weeks, I am hooked. It is a great alternative to a more pricey product. I am also loving the skincare products from La Roche-Posay: Micellar water (great for simple cleansing) and the Redermic Retinol cream (for the aging group, hand raised here). The Effaclar Acne treatment was recommended to me by my son’s pediatrician for his hormonal acne. Fingers crossed this will work for him, we are only a few days in. Physician’s Formula has a soothing serum (coincidentally called Rosé All Day Serum) which is for brightening and tightening, priced at whopping $15. It smells so good and looks great under makeup. I finally tried some “safe” deodorant: the coconut oil aluminum-free option from Kopari. This one worked for me and kept me smelling like coconut even after a workout. Of course, two drugstore makeup heavy hitters are e.l.f. cosmetics and wet n wild (I remember purchasing my first eyeliner from wet n wild in seventh grade). The wet n wild lip liner and lip gloss are yummy, but the L’Oréal Havana Lip Dew rivals the Fenty Gloss Bomb Universal one I love. For highlighting, I chose the wet n wild Megaglo stick to throw in my bag for touchups on the go. The L’Oréal Lumi Glotion has also been a recent fave because it is a perfect dupe for the Chanticaille Radiance Gel Bronzer that I featured in one of my earlier posts (Best Bronzers). Another glow product I am enjoying is the e.l.f. cosmetics Sunkissed Booster Drops. Just squeeze a drop of this gel-like substance into your palm and mix with moisturizer for a dewy look. For makeup brushes, I recommend this 12 brush set from e.l.f. cosmetics. Every brush you may need for $12! My hair colorist suggested I try the Tresemmé Protection for color-treated hair. After one use my hair felt so soft and shiny. I like to alternate it with my more pricey Kérastase shampoo and conditioner to keep from getting any thick build up. Each time I visit CVS, I usually grab some Simple cleansing wipes and stock up on some Hollywood tape for those pesky bra straps and button-downs! Make your list today and try Physician’s Formula Argan lip oil or e.l.f. cosmetics Poreless Face Primer. Have fun browsing the aisles!
