Every once in a while I like to make small changes to the decor in my house. Usually, these alterations are imperceptible to my husband so I can get away with them with no input from him! I like to switch up the way our coffee tables are styled, usually changing with the seasons. Disclaimer- I am not a decorator, but I read a lot of magazines and have picked up some tips along the way. We have two coffee tables, one rectangular and one square, so each has a corresponding configuration. However, I follow the same three steps for both, using the same elements, just arranged with a different layout. First I like to create a focal point, like an orchid or a hurricane votive. Trays are also perfect for centerpieces, holding some objects or candles as well. Second, I usually add a few stacks of books, with some color or interesting covers. The stacks also serve as a platform for any small objects to display. Lastly, I like to arrange brass, glass and shell decorations in the form of boxes, containers, or animal figures. These collectibles can be trip mementos, family heirlooms or treasures from One Kings Lane or HomeGoods! These small touches can be textured, smooth or shiny, just make sure to choose a variety. In the colder winter months, I like to have a match holder for easy candle lighting. In the summer, I like to use more wicker. Have fun redecorating your coffee table!
