This group of beach reads is a varied bunch: you have your classic thrillers and feel-good reads, but I also included a few memoirs and family sagas. The original beach-read authors Jennifer Weiner and Lauren Weisberger are included, along with newcomers Sarah Penner, Cristina Clancy, and Liza Rodman. For Darien locals, you may want to try local author Carola Lovering’s most recent release Too Good to be True. And if you loved Daisy Jones and the Six, then you might want to pick up Taylor Jenkins Reid’s latest Malibu Rising where “four famous siblings throw an epic party to celebrate the end of the summer. But over the course of twenty-four hours, their lives will change forever. For me, I have two on the top of my stack. First up, the memoir written by Gary Marshall’s wife and daughter Barbara and Lori Marshall, One Way Ticket to LA. This heartwarming Hollywood love story is just what I need right now. And for some sentimentality, The Second Home “this assured and affecting debut captures the ache of nostalgia for summers past and the powerful draw of the places we return to again and again. It is about second homes, second families, and second chances.” Locals can purchase all of these picks on the Barrett Bookstore website. Don’t be left empty-handed at the beach or pool this summer!
How do I find these titles to recommend to you? I read a lot, but I also refer to trusted book reviews on Goodreads, the NY Times, and Kirkus. I belong to a book club with opinionated readers, and I live next door to a local bookstore insider who lends me advance copies! Basically, I do the legwork so you don’t have to. For more titles, browse previous Book Blast posts or visit my Amazon store. Keep reading!
