Summer is not over yet and my “to read” pile is forever growing. I just added these nine titles to my list and thought I should share them with you too. They come highly recommended to me- by my neighbor, sister, and a few trusted followers. Goodreads has all of these rated as 3.5-4.5 stars (out of 5). I just finished One To Watch and it was the feel-good book I needed. Plus size blogger Beatrice finds herself as the star of a reality show Main Squeeze, based on The Bachelor. Readers follow Bea as she navigates the on-camera dating scene, an opinionated television audience, and her own insecurities. “In this joyful, wickedly observant debut, Bea has to decide whether it might just be worth trusting these men—and herself—for a chance to live happily ever after.” Next up will be Summer Darlings: “set during the splendid summer days of 1960s Martha’s Vineyard, this page-turning debut novel pulls back the curtain on one mysterious and wealthy family as seen through the eyes of their nanny—a college student who, while falling in love on the elegant island, is also forced to reckon with the dark underbelly of privilege.” Fingers crossed that my local bookstore will have a copy of A Star is Bored by Byron Lane. Touted as People Magazine Best Book of Summer 2020, I am dying to sink my teeth into this one too. Based on Lane’s time as an assistant to movie star Carrie Fisher, this debut novel is sure to be a juicy treat. To read more about each title, click on the cover below. All are available in my Amazon store or for Darien locals at Barrett Bookstore. Happy reading!
How do I find these titles to recommend to you? I read a lot, but I also refer to trusted book reviews on Goodreads, the NY Times, and Kirkus. I belong to a book club with opinionated readers, and I live next door to a local bookstore insider who lends me advance copies! Basically, I do the legwork so you don’t have to.
