When I find an author that I enjoy, I stick with them, going from one book to the next. If they write a series, even better. But, sometimes change is good. So I decided to try a few books by authors that I had never read before. Many of these were recommended to me and now I am finally digging in.
First up is Tomorrow There Will Be Sun by Dana Reinhardt. Even though Dana and I were in the same class in college, I really didn’t know her well. I learned that she was an author through the Vassar Quarterly, where she was featured with other alum authors in an impressive spread. Of course, I remembered her right away and added her latest novel to my “to read” shelf on Goodreads. I am excited to see what happens when a two-family vacation in a tropical paradise goes awry.
Next will be the two titles recommended to me by my neighbor that conveniently works in our local book store (think advanced copies and lots of free books)! She knows I like the mystery/thriller genre, so she set aside The Hunting Party and The Good Detective for me to try, and I loved both!
Here I am also making a promise to read a book by a new author to me and a genre that I don’t read enough of- Historical Fiction. The Space Between Us was suggested to me over Instagram by a fellow Goodreads friend. This novel received a rating of 4/5 stars on Goodreads and was a finalist for the Pen/Beyond Margins Award. Thrity Umrigar has my attention now! Tangerine is another in this genre that I am excited to tear into.
Of course, I couldn’t post a Book Blast without a fair share of thrillers and beach reads. For the page-turning nailbiters: The Night Olivia Fell, The Favorite Daughter, and Her Last Secret. To grab for the beach: American Royals, Cape May and The Idea of You. Which author is new to you? Click on a cover below to read more about each book.
How do I find these titles to recommend to you? I read a lot, but I also refer to trusted book reviews on Goodreads, the NY Times, and Kirkus. I belong to a book club with opinionated readers, and I live next door to a local bookstore insider who lends me advance copies! Basically, I do the legwork so you don’t have to. For more titles, browse previous Book Blast posts or visit my Amazon store. Keep reading!
