Lately, I have found myself at our bar at home promptly each day at 5 pm, looking to reward myself with a cold glass of wine, or maybe a really dirty martini (don’t think I am alone in this). I love my family, but being stuck in the house with them for days on end definitely takes a toll on my sanity and patience (do we have any fresh vegetables??). Since I am also bored for many hours of the day, I find myself rearranging areas of the house: the linen closet, spice drawer, and now the bar. I love the look of a fully stocked and styled bar, chock full of glassware, colorful bottles, and quirky accessories. Its ambiance creates a relaxed vibe and evokes a feeling of good times to come. Or, as in recent weeks, good times each and every night. With the popularity of the bar cart, it’s easy to find styling inspiration on Pinterest or in magazines. Like the styling of my coffee table (read post here), I also rely on a few staples for a good looking bar. Basic elements consist of liquor bottles on a tray, drink mixers, coasters, ice buckets, stemware, cocktail napkins, shakers (yes please!) bottle openers, and, most importantly, the bar cart itself. The stocked bar cart adds a welcoming touch to a stark dining room, formal living room, or casual sun porch. I find most of these bar basics below also double as creative hostess gifts too. It’s time to belly up to the bar and get back to basics. What’s your drink choice tonight? Cheers!
